Jennifer M. Jacobsen, Esq.

Partner Jennifer Jacobsen and her colleagues offer practical and common sense corporate counseling to over 900 community association clients in California and Nevada. She and her team are committed to ensuring the success of each of the communities they serve. Ms. Jacobsen provides orientation and training to boards of directors and assists them in understanding, enforcing and revising their governing documents. When the time comes, she aids them in the process of transitioning the corporation from developer to member control. She counsels clients on corporate formalities, statutory disclosure requirements, assessment collections and contract oversight, negotiation and administration. If a matter proceeds to alternative dispute resolution, Ms. Jacobsen provides thoughtful and committed representation in the context of arbitration and mediation.

Ms. Jacobsen’s expertise includes working with age-restricted communities to ensure compliance with the Housing for Older Persons Act and California law. She also counsels boards of directors on Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and defends community associations in administrative proceedings before the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

Due to her significant accomplishments, the California judicial system has qualified Ms. Jacobsen as an expert witness on community association matters. Additionally, her peers regularly request that she serve as mediator in their disputes. Ms. Jacobsen frequently guest lectures at California State University in Sacramento and has proudly served El Dorado County for over 13 years as a pro tem judge.

Ms. Jacobsen is a member of a select group of community association practitioners who have been selected to serve on the prestigious Legal Steering Committee for the California Association of Community Managers, Inc. Additional volunteer efforts to her industry include past presidency of the California North Chapter of the Community Association Institute and lecturing as a certified instructor for the Nevada Department of Real Estate.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Marquette University, Ms. Jacobsen received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Law School where she was editor of the Wisconsin Law Review, a legal writing instructor and a judicial extern to Justice William Callow of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In 2022, Ms. Jacobsen received her Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Management from the Program in Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Ms. Jacobsen is admitted to the California, Nevada, Alaska and Wisconsin State Bars.
